This application serves as an introduction to the Southern Pomo language, a linguistic heritage of North America.
Developed collaboratively by the California Indian Museum and Cultural Center (CIMCC) and the Miromaa Aboriginal Language and Technology Centre, this app aims to enhance the accessibility of the Southern Pomo language.
The CIMCC's primary mission is to educate the public on the history, culture, and contemporary lives of California Indians, while honoring their significant contributions to society. This application emerged from the Shoh yehaelim: Pomo is Happening Now project, which is supported by funding from the Administration for Native Americans within the Department of Health and Human Services. The Shoh yehaelim initiative is dedicated to fostering Pomo language learning in tribal communities located in Sonoma, Mendocino, and Lake Counties.
The Miromaa Aboriginal Language and Technology Centre is a recognized not-for-profit organization focused on language documentation and conservation initiatives both nationally and internationally. They have developed the highly regarded Miromaa language technology program, which plays a crucial role in documenting, conserving, and promoting traditional languages.
